Terms of Use

These terms are the agreement between you and Maverick Systems ("we", "us") for the Sidekick Tel app, website and phone service ("Sidekick"). By creating an account or using Sidekick you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data.

Please read section 3. Sidekick can't be used to call emergency services.

1. The service

Sidekick gives you a phone line and messaging on your iPhone. It works with the Sidekick phone system, where we set up an extension for you, or with a phone system of your own that you connect. It also keeps your call history, contacts, lines and recordings in step across your devices.

Sidekick works over the internet. Call quality and whether calls get through depend on your connection and on the phone systems involved. We work to keep Sidekick running, but we can't promise it will always be available or free of faults.

2. Your account

  • You must be at least 13, and old enough to agree to these terms where you live.
  • Give accurate details, keep your sign-in to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has used it.
  • You're responsible for what happens on your account and on the lines you add to it.
  • If you connect a phone system of your own, you must be allowed to use it, and its provider's terms apply to it as well as ours.

3. No emergency calls

Sidekick does not support calls to emergency services, such as 999 or 112, and must not be relied on for them. Lines on the Sidekick phone system can call other extensions, not ordinary phone numbers or emergency numbers, and Sidekick can't pass your location to the emergency services. Keep another way to call for help, such as your mobile network.

4. Plans

  • Personal is free, with one line and 30 days of call history.
  • Pro adds more lines, all your call history, call recording, group chats and the Sidekick assistant. You can try it free for 14 days, once, without payment details. When the trial ends you go back to Personal unless you subscribe.
  • Team gives everyone in a company Pro's features and admin tools. It's bought per seat by an admin of the company.

What each plan includes, and its price, is shown on our pricing page and at checkout. We may change the features of a plan. If a change takes away something you pay for, we'll tell you before it happens, and you can cancel.

5. Payment, renewal and cancelling

  • Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each monthly or yearly period, at the price then in force, until you cancel. We'll give you notice before a price rise takes effect.
  • On the website, payments are processed by Stripe. You can cancel, change plan or seats and download invoices from Plan & billing, Manage billing. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep your plan until the end of the period you've paid for.
  • In the app, payments are made through your Apple Account under Apple's terms. Manage or cancel them in your iPhone's Settings, under your name, then Subscriptions, at least 24 hours before the period ends. Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple.
  • Refunds. Apart from purchases made through Apple, if you're a consumer in the UK you may cancel a new subscription within 14 days of first paying. If you've used the paid features in that time, we may keep a proportionate amount for the days used. Otherwise, payments are not refundable for part of a period, except where the law says they are.
  • Team seats. A company can't have more people than the seats it pays for. If there are more people than seats, the newest members go without Team until seats are added.
  • If a payment fails, we may pause paid features until it's put right.

6. Companies

If you create a company, you confirm you're allowed to act for it. Its admins decide who is in it and pay for its plan. If you use Sidekick through your employer, your employer may remove you from its company at any time. You then go back to your own plan and keep your account and line.

7. Using Sidekick fairly

You must not use Sidekick to:

  • break the law, or help anyone else to;
  • harass, threaten, defraud or impersonate anyone;
  • send spam, or make automated or bulk calls or messages;
  • send anything that infringes someone else's rights, or that is unlawful or harmful;
  • get into accounts, extensions or systems that aren't yours, or disrupt the service for others;
  • copy, resell or reverse-engineer Sidekick, except where the law allows it.

8. Recording calls

The law on recording calls differs between countries and situations. Many require you to tell the other person, or to have their agreement, before you record. You're responsible for following the law when you record a call, and for how you use and keep recordings.

9. Your content

What you put into Sidekick, such as contacts, messages, recordings and photos, stays yours. You give us permission to store, copy and transmit it only as needed to provide Sidekick to you and the people you communicate with.

10. Ending the agreement

You can stop using Sidekick and delete your account at any time, in the app under Account, Delete Account. Deleting your account doesn't cancel an App Store subscription, so cancel that with Apple too.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or where the law requires it. Unless it would be unlawful or put others at risk, we'll tell you why first and give you the chance to put it right. If we stop providing Sidekick altogether, we'll give you reasonable notice and refund any payment for time you won't get.

11. Our responsibility to you

  • Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit.
  • If you're a consumer, you have legal rights in relation to services that aren't provided with reasonable care and skill, and nothing in these terms affects them. We're not responsible for losses that weren't foreseeable, or for losses to a business of yours.
  • If you use Sidekick for a business, we aren't liable for loss of profit, business, revenue or data, or for indirect loss. Our total liability in any 12 months is limited to what you paid us in that time.
  • We're not responsible for phone systems, networks or services run by others, including a phone system of your own.

12. The iPhone app and Apple

These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple isn't responsible for the app or its content, has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it, and isn't responsible for any claims relating to it, including product liability, legal or regulatory compliance, or intellectual property claims. If the app fails to meet a warranty that applies to it, you may tell Apple, and Apple may refund the price you paid for the app, if any; Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. You confirm you aren't in a country subject to a US government embargo, or on a US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when Sidekick changes or the law does. If a change matters, we'll tell you by email or in the app at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you don't agree, you can cancel before then.

14. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales can hear disputes. If you're a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings there, and your local law's consumer protections still apply.
