Help with Sidekick Tel
Support
Most answers are below. If yours isn't, email hello@sidekicktel.com and a person will get back to you. It helps to include your iPhone model, the iOS version, the app version and what you were doing when it went wrong.
Sidekick can't call emergency services. Use your mobile network for 999, 112 or 911.

Getting started
- Signing in. Enter your email address and we'll send you a one-time code. There's no password. The same code creates an account if you don't have one.
- Your handle. When you first sign in, you pick a handle: an @ followed by at least 6 letters and digits. It's how friends find you on Sidekick, and it can't be one someone else already has.
- Your Sidekick line. Every account gets a Sidekick line straight away. You can add up to four more, from your company's phone system or any SIP provider, in Account, under Lines.
- Not getting the code? Check your junk folder, then ask for a new code. Codes expire after a few minutes.
Calls
- Calls don't ring when the app is closed. Open Sidekick once after restarting your iPhone, and make sure the line shows as ready in Calls. Check that Focus or Do Not Disturb isn't silencing calls, and that Sidekick is allowed to send notifications in Settings, Notifications.
- A line won't connect. Open the line in Account, check the server, extension and password with whoever runs that phone system, and try switching the line off and on. Lines on your own phone system follow its rules; we can only help with lines on the Sidekick phone system.
- A Sidekick call is refused. On Sidekick, people can only call and message friends. Send them a friend request and wait for them to accept. Ordinary phone numbers on your other lines aren't affected.
- "Another app is using the microphone." A FaceTime or phone call holds the microphone and camera. End it, then try again.
- Two calls at once. When a second call comes in, choose Hold & Answer or End & Answer. On the call screen you can then swap between them or merge them.
Friends and chats
- Adding a friend. In Contacts, open Friend Requests, tap Add Friend and enter their handle. You can add a short message. They're added to your contacts when they accept.
- Removing or blocking someone. Open their contact card and choose Remove Friend or Block. Blocked people can't call or message you on any line, and they aren't told. You can also manage friends and blocks on the website, in your dashboard under Friends.
- Reactions, replies and edits. Touch and hold a message to react, reply, forward, copy or, if it's your own text message, edit it.
- A message won't send. Chats need a connection to the Sidekick phone system. Feeds says when messaging is offline and why; your message is kept so you can try again.
Meetings and screen sharing
- Starting a meeting. Start a video or audio meeting from Calls or from a group chat. Everyone you invite gets a Join card in the chat, and the app enters the PIN for them.
- Host controls. As host you can mute one person or everyone, remove someone, lock the meeting, ring someone in, or end it for everyone. The same controls are in your dashboard on the website, under Meetings.
- Sharing your screen. In a video call or meeting, tap Share Screen and choose Sidekick Tel only or your entire iPhone. Notifications that appear while you share the entire iPhone can be seen by the other people on the call.
Feeds: radio, podcasts and news
- A station won't play. Stations are run by their broadcasters and some go offline or change their address. Try another, or remove it from your favourites.
- The radio stopped. A call stops the radio and pauses a podcast where it was, so you never miss a call. Press play again afterwards.
- Favourites on another iPhone. Favourites, followed shows, news feeds and where you left each episode are kept on your account, so they appear on every iPhone you sign in on.
Mentor
Mentor, the assistant, runs on your iPhone using Apple Intelligence, so it appears only on iPhones that support Apple Intelligence, with it turned on in Settings, Apple Intelligence & Siri. It asks before it calls or messages anyone.
Subscriptions and refunds
- Bought in the app? Manage or cancel it in your iPhone's Settings: tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Sidekick Tel. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid being charged again. Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Bought on our website? Sign in, open Plan & billing in your dashboard and choose Manage billing to cancel, change your plan or download invoices. For a refund, email hello@sidekicktel.com.
- Moved to a new iPhone? Sign in with the same email, and your plan, lines, contacts and history come back. App Store subscriptions follow your Apple Account.
Our Terms of Use explain renewals and cancelling in full.
Your account and data
- Signing out empties Sidekick on that iPhone: lines, contacts, calls, chats and recordings. Sign in again and it all comes back from your account. Line passwords stay in your iPhone's Keychain.
- Deleting your account. In the app, go to Account and choose Delete Account. This deletes your account, everything synced to it, your files and meeting rooms, ends your friendships, and removes your extension from the Sidekick phone system. It can't be undone. Deleting your account doesn't cancel an App Store subscription, so cancel that in Settings too.
- A copy of your data, or a correction. Email hello@sidekicktel.com from the address you sign in with. Our Privacy Policy explains your rights.
